"Impaired cortical neuronal homeostasis and cognition after diffuse traumatic brain injury are dependent on microglia and type I interferon responses" Glia 2024

Analysis of scRNA-seq databases reveals microglia increased stimulator of interferon genes (STING) activation and interferon responses after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Evidence is provided that reducing IFN-I signaling after TBI by pharmacological or genetic inhibition of STING attenuated the prolonged microglial activation and cognitive impairment that is normally associated with TBI.
